"Upgrading Infrastructure for Safer, Sustainable Transit"

Supports reliable, low-emission transit by upgrading facilities for safe and efficient LFLRV servicing.

The Roncesvalles Carhouse Track 21 High-Level Platform Modifications project involves upgrades to an existing TTC streetcar maintenance facility to improve the safety, accessibility, and operational functionality of the inspection platform used for servicing low-floor light rail vehicles (LFLRV). The work includes selective demolition, installation of new guardrails, sliding access gates, fencing, tactile warning surfaces, and modifications to electrical and access control systems integrated with existing TTC infrastructure. By modernizing existing infrastructure rather than constructing new facilities, the project supports sustainable asset management and reduces material waste and embodied carbon. Construction is within an active transit facility and will require carefully staged work sequencing and coordination with TTC operations to minimize disruption while promoting safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible construction practices.

The project supports sustainable transit infrastructure by upgrading an existing TTC maintenance facility to improve the safe servicing of low-floor light rail vehicles. By rehabilitating existing infrastructure and incorporating durable materials, the project reduces waste, extends asset life, and contributes to the reliable operation of Toronto’s low-emission public transit network.
